Candidate Fee:

  • Pay at start of last class.  Cash or Credit Only.
  • No payment required if you (i) are not eligible for the last class, or (ii) elect to discontinue program participation before the last class.

 

Program Materials:        

  • Free.  Provided by Program Sponsor.

Mask:   

  • Not returned.  You retain your mask. 
Prerequisites:   
  • 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
  • Candidate must complete the below Skill Test, which is tested on or before morning of the first class before the start of the first class.
    • Swim 100 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
    • Complete timed event within 50 seconds:
    1. Starting in water, swim 20 yards using only front crawl or breaststroke. Face may be in or out of the water.  Swim goggles not allowed.
    2. Submerge to depth of 4 to 5 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface and walk or swim 20 yards to return to starting point with both hands holding the object at the surface of the water.
    3. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Curriculum: 

Program Curriculum includes Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED in-pool instruction/testing, deck area/classroom instructions/testing, and written testing. Each phase is a prerequisite to the next.  Candidates must successfully complete the class to be considered for employment opportunities.

 

Certification:      

Candidates who successfully complete the Program receive American Red Cross certificate for Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
